India and Mongolia Commence 15th Edition of Joint Military Exercise

The 15th edition of the joint military exercise between India and Mongolia, named “Nomadic Elephant 2023,” commences today in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. According to a release by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), an Indian Army contingent of 43 personnel departed for Mongolia yesterday to participate in the exercise, which will run from today until the 31st of this month.

The participating Indian Army soldiers belong to the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, while the Mongolian Armed Forces Unit 084 will represent Mongolia. The exercise’s primary focus will be on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain under the United Nations mandate. The training activities will mainly involve Platoon-level Field Training Exercises (FTX).

Exercise Nomadic Elephant-23 holds significant importance in strengthening the defence cooperation between the Indian Army and Mongolian Army. The joint exercise serves as a platform for both nations to enhance their skills, capabilities, and interoperability. It will contribute to the ongoing bilateral relations between India and Mongolia.

The Nomadic Elephant exercise is conducted annually between India and Mongolia, with the location alternating between the two countries. This collaborative training event further solidifies the friendship and military cooperation between India and Mongolia, fostering mutual understanding and synergy between the armed forces of both nations.
