Delhi Government Takes Precautionary Measures as Yamuna River Water Level Rises

The Delhi Government has announced the closure of all government and private schools in areas experiencing waterlogging issues in the National Capital. In addition, the Okhla and Chandrawal Wazirabad water treatment plants in New Delhi have been temporarily shut down. These decisions were made in response to the rising water level of the Yamuna River.

As a precautionary measure, the Delhi Traffic Police has implemented diversions and issued advisories for major routes. The advisory states that traffic movement on GT Karnal Road is closed and diverted to the other side between GT Karnal Road and ISBT from the Sonepat side. Traffic movement on the outer ring road is only allowed towards GT Karnal Road between Rohini and ISBT. At Mukarba Chowk, traffic is diverted to Peeragarhi Chowk and Narela side, while in the Bhalswa area, traffic is redirected to Pragarhi and Narela side.

The advisory further mentions that traffic on GT Karnal Road towards Azadpur under Mukarba Chowk Flyover is diverted towards Rohini. At Singhu Border, traffic is being redirected to Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. Passenger buses from Haryana and Punjab are terminating at the Singhu border. Commuters are advised to avoid these mentioned roads and plan their journey accordingly.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Yamuna River in Delhi has reached a record high of 208.57 meters, surpassing the previous record of 207.49 meters set in 1978. The Delhi Police, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), is actively involved in evacuating people who are stranded due to waterlogging in various areas.

The Delhi Government’s swift actions and the efforts of the authorities aim to ensure the safety and well-being of residents amidst the challenging situation caused by the rising water levels.
